Recognized as one of the world’s most influential scientists in artificial intelligence, Professor Yoshua Bengio is celebrated for his pioneering work in deep learning, which has profoundly shaped the modern AI era.
As co-recipient of the 2018 Turing Award – often called the “Nobel Prize of Computing” – he helped lay the foundations for today’s neural networks and machine learning systems.
Beyond his groundbreaking research, Bengio is known for his ethical and humanistic approach to AI.
He has advised governments and international organizations, contributed to UNESCO’s recommendations on AI ethics, and remains one of the leading voices calling for global cooperation, transparency, and responsibility in the development of intelligent systems.
For the first issue of Article Zero, we reached out to some of the world’s most influential thinkers shaping the future of artificial intelligence.
Among them, Professor Yoshua Bengio, widely regarded as one of the “godfathers of deep learning,” shared his view on the role of international collaboration in creating responsible AI.
Article Zero:
“What role should international collaboration play in building a responsible AI ecosystem?”
Professor Joshua Bengio:
“To mitigate the potentially catastrophic risks of advanced AI, I believe it is urgent to establish both technical and societal guardrails.
To that end, international cooperation will be crucial to create effective global regulations as well as shared norms and treaties, in order to prevent a dangerous competitive race between nations and safely realize AI’s potential benefits for all.”
