Answer:
European regulation strikes a balanced approach by encouraging innovation and introducing proportionate and risk-based rules to protect citizens.
For example, through the AI Act, the EU creates a predictable legal environment that supports innovation, ensures safety, and promotes trust in AI systems across 27 Member States.
As President Ursula von der Leyen said at the Paris AI Summit: “We want Europe to be one of the leading AI continents.”
In this context, we’ve already selected 19 AI Factories across 16 Member States, and for the upcoming AI Gigafactories, we have already received over 76 applications from 16 Member States and private sector.
In total, the EU and participating EuroHPC countries have committed over € 2.6 billion to the AI Factories and Antennas initiative, strengthening Europe’s ambition to become a leading AI Continent, as outlined in the AI Continent Action Plan.
This also aligns with the Apply AI Strategy to accelerate the uptake of artificial intelligence across Europe’s economy and public sector.
